July 1, 2021
Please let me introduce myself, my name is George Smith, and I'm your new Commander. On behalf of our Officers of American Legion Post 105, we’d like to wish you and your family a Happy 4th of July! I hope you will be enjoying the 3-day weekend while remembering this is a celebration of our Country’s Independence. Please make sure your children/grandchildren know exactly what that means. It’s so important for all of us to understand the sacrifices made by our ancestors giving us the privilege to live in America, the land of the free, the home of the brave.
The Post will be open for an old fashion 4th of July BBQ from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, please bring your family, come down and meet your new Officers and the whole Family of American Legion, AL Commander, Auxiliary President, SAL Commander and AL Rider President.
We’d love to hear your comments on anything you’d like to communicate with us. If you know a member that doesn’t have access to a computer, please print this out and give them a copy. We know there approximately 30% of our members that doesn't have access to a computer. We’d love to have a system set up to keep them informed without sending snail mail (cost the Post money). Anyone want to head that committee? We want to keep ALL our members informed.
Our Post is in the middle of a tremendous transition, keeping the current structure available for rentals to pay for the day-to-day expenditures of the Post, until everything is in place to shut it down and start construction of the new facility.
We’re looking for members to volunteer to participate in all aspects of the Post. I’d like to start with a new CPR/1stAide Certification committee. Anyone that is an instructor, Red Cross certified, or would like to be instructor Red Cross Certified, that would allow you to certify our Post and community members. We couldn’t provide a more beneficial service than teaching someone how to save another person’s life. Please call me if you’d like to volunteer.
We’re also thinking about opening the Post 1 day a week to start in the morning from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon for members to come in, have coffee and munchies.
All member meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of the month will be at the Post at 7:00 pm and dinner at 6:00 pm. If you can't make it will will broadcast via Zoom. This is a work in process and will get better after each meeting. Anyone want to volunteer for that committee?
Now that we have a full Family Post again, you’ll be hearing from all the Family leaders as well our newly elected Officers, keeping you updated on how we’re doing in our monthly newsletter.
I’m excited about Post 105’s future, we’re on tract to be the premier Veterans Organization in San Mateo County. The new building, below market Veteran’s housing, access to mass transportation, an investment endowment supporting the Post with interest only (while donating a portion of the interest to growing the endowment), rental of the new facility. All the things we will be able to provide to our Veterans and Community will only make us more valuable to those we serve. Want to be on the committee? Hope on board, it’s going to be a fun ride!
